About Greg Sanders, MD

Program Director

Sea Mar Marysville

Medical School: USC Keck School of Medicine

Residency: Tacoma Family Medicine

Dr. Greg Sanders joined Sea Mar in 1992, when the Marysville clinic was serving patients out of a small house. As Marysville’s Clinical Director he has seen the clinic grow into a larger facility with more comprehensive services. He has always practiced OB, and for most of his career he practiced inpatient family medicine. During his 20+ years in family medicine he has taught residents, medical students and advanced care practitioners rotating in the Marysville clinic. Dr. Sanders has had various hospital medical staff positions, including Chief of Staff.

Before attending medical school Dr. Sanders spent two years working at the National Cancer Institute and a year working for Dr. Harold Varmus, Nobel Laureate in Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.  He participated in research on oncogenes and Plasmodium falciparum.

A few years ago Dr. Sanders took a sabbatical, going to the rural Connemara region of western Ireland, where he practiced family medicine for a year. His teenage children went to local schools and the family enjoyed living amongst the Irish people, experiencing their beautiful culture and traditional Irish music and dance. His photography hobby and love of travel flourished during this adventure. Previously, he traveled to many exotic locales, including Papua New Guinea, India, Nepal, and Tibet.

More recently, he has been developing the Sea Mar Marysville Family Medicine Residency (FMR). This has been a rewarding endeavor, working with Providence Everett leadership and dedicated specialists at the hospital and in the community, sharing a vision of developing the first allopathic FMR north of Seattle.  He has prepared for this residency by completing a University of Washington Faculty Development Fellowship as well as a National Institute of Program Director’s Fellowship.

He is married, with 3 delightful now young adult offspring.  Dr. Sanders enjoys living on Camano Island, where boating, fishing, and crabbing are his favorite leisure activities.
