Progam Directors Update 9/16/19

We now have 3 years of residents and they are doing great, learning and working towards careers with strong full spectrum training and helping the underserved, which is our residency mission.  We are looking forward to our first cohort graduating in June, 2020. Their obstetrical numbers are very robust. Some residents will be staying with Sea Mar and helping to teach.

We are working hard on a FM/OB Fellowship which may start next year. Also, we are taking advantage of a rare opportunity to potentially expand our program, as HRSA opened a competitive Teaching Health Center residency expansion grant. We will hear in November if we are one of the few programs to receive this grant, which would fund an additional 4 residents per year.

There is plenty of space in the over 500 bed Providence Everett community hospital, where our residents are unopposed. We primarily use our Marysville clinic, the residency “home” and we also have our residents spend some time in our Everett clinic, for more prenatal volume.

In 2020, the newest Sea Mar clinic will be opening in Lynnwood, offering more training opportunities. Our residents are now helping teach Washington State University medical students, during some of their inpatient rotations.

We continue to expand our faculty. Since Juliana Oliveira DO joined us over a year ago, she has been developing OMT curriculum, which all of our residents have appreciated. Tyler Barreto MD, MPH brings a strong family medicine and obstetrical research background, having four national publications just this year. Some of her research is on why graduating residents planning to do OB end up in jobs without that component. Also, Audrey Grey MD, MPH, a former Chief in the Ventura FMR, brings her OB procedural skills and global/rural health knowledge to our program.
